The mission of the Nursing Department at MGH is to provide compassionate, patient-centered care through innovative, evidence-based practice. MGH nurses are dedicated to promoting health and providing high-quality patient care, for both the well-being of patients and support for their families.
MGH believes that health care is a human right, and that patients should participate in their own care, whether the goal is to improve the quality of life or to support death with dignity. MGH nurses are qualified through licensure, demonstrated competence, and a commitment to professional development through lifelong learning.
Nurses receive on-going training and are systematically assessed on a regular basis, using a variety of Performance Improvement Indicators to ensure the quality of their work. Clinical Nursing Units include three Internal Medicine Units, one Surgical Unit, and one VIP Medical-Surgical Unit. The function of the Clinical Nursing Units is to provide the best possible care within a safe and therapeutic environment to patients with various medical and surgical conditions.
